Kelwood Landfill Regulations

We are dedicated to ensuring responsible waste disposal at our landfill. We have established specific rules and guidelines to maintain a clean and sustainable environment. Please familiarize yourself with the following regulations:

  • Oil Retrieval: We accept oil filters and antifreeze for proper disposal. These hazardous materials must be deposited in designated containers to prevent contamination.
  • Tire Section: You can dispose of tires at our landfill; however, please ensure that they are free of rims. This regulation helps us manage tire waste efficiently.
  • Metal Section: All types of metal are accepted at our facility. Whether it's scrap metal or unwanted machinery, we encourage you to bring it to the designated metal section for appropriate recycling.
  • Clean Burn: To minimize environmental impact, we employ a clean burn process for certain waste items. This method significantly reduces emissions, promoting a greener landfill.
  • RAW Wood and Trees: Unpainted and untreated wood, as well as trees, can be disposed of at our landfill. We encourage responsible disposal to maximize the potential for recycling and repurposing.
  • Treated Wood and Wood Furniture: Treated wood and wood furniture, including painted and stained items, are accepted. However, please note that these materials should be deposited separately due to their specific recycling requirements.
  • Household Refuse: Our landfill accepts non-toxic household waste. From everyday items to small appliances, we provide a convenient solution for responsible disposal of such materials.
  • Propane Tank Area: For the safe disposal of propane tanks, we have designated areas within our landfill. These areas adhere to strict safety protocols to ensure the well-being of our staff and the environment.
  • Recycling Area (4 Bins): Our recycling area consists of four bins for efficient waste separation. Please deposit clean cardboard (excluding pizza boxes), recyclable plastics, newspapers, magazines (no carbon paper), and glass (excluding dinnerware and drinking glasses) in their respective bins.
  • Triangle Symbol and Numbers: The triangle symbol found on some items indicates the resin identification code. These numbers within the triangle help identify the type of plastic used in the product, aiding in proper recycling and waste management.
  • Newspapers and Magazines: We accept newspapers and magazines for recycling purposes. However, please ensure that no carbon paper is included, as it cannot be recycled.
  • Glass: While we accept glass, please note that dinnerware and drinking glasses are not permitted. This restriction ensures efficient recycling and prevents contamination.
  • Seasonally: During specific seasons, we provide designated areas for the disposal of trees and furniture. This service allows you to conveniently and responsibly dispose of these items while promoting recycling and repurposing efforts.
